Cambusnethan North Church of Scotland, Cambusnethan, North Lanarkshire

A new church was built in 1902/03 to replace one further along the street. The architects were Alexander Hinshelwood & John Forrest Steel and it is an Arts & Crafts style. The hall was enlarged and a classroom added in 1928/29 by John Steel. At the union with the Church of Scotland in 1929 it became Cambusnethan North Parish Church.

The building is aligned north north west/south south east with a tower and stair tower on west(say) wall. It is built in red rock-faced sandstone with fair-faced dressings. The roofs are slated. The exception is the modern hall extension which has pebble-dash and a flatroof.

The north gable has three rectangular leaded windows with upper embellishment. The main window is a pointed arch and contains five pointed trefoil windows and in the space above there narrow decorated string course and the a "burning bush" set in a "niche" with crocketted finials and to the side blind round-lobed quatrefoils within circles. The gable has pairs of corner stepped buttresses at ground floor level.

The east side has five bays with tall pointed arch windows containing Y-tracery and then the one bay east transept.

The west side has one bay followed by the tower with side stairwell tower. The tower entrance has a flat arch with a hood moulding and a floral decorated arch moulding. Adjacent to the entrance is a pair of ground floor corner buttresses. The second stage has a small rectangular leaded window. The third stage has trios of louvred lancet windows between heavy corner pillars which rise above the battlemented parapet. The short slated spire has a square lead cap. The stair tower has small rectangular leaded windows.

The west wall then has another two bays prior to the west transept which has a trio of graded lancet windows.

The rear hall lies transversely and has trio of graded lancet windows oin it gable.

A pipe organ by J W Walker & Sons was installed in 1966 and overhauled in 1994 by Michael Macdonald.
