Former Dunscore East Church of Scotland, Kellieston, Dumfriesshire

A Free Church was formed in 1843 by the minister and congregation who had left the established church. In 1844 a church and manse were built. This was Dunscore Free Church. A school and schoolhouse were erected at Dunscore. When the schooling was taken over by the School Boards in 1872 the school was converted to a hall. In 1899 the church was rebuilt on the same site. The next year the Free Church united with the United Presbyterian Church.and the church became East United Free Church. In 1918 the church united with Renwick United Free Church and both churches appear to have continued in use. It then became Renwick & East United Free Church. In 1929 at the union with the Church of Scotland it became Renwick & East Church. At this point probably one of the churches closed but which one has not been established. The united church, however, united with Dunscore Old Church in 1940 and the Renwick & East Church closed. tis now in domestic use.

The original church was aligned clockwise of north/south with an extension on the west half of the south wall.

The new church has the same alignment but has an east transept. It is built in random rubble with red sandstone dressings. The roofs are slated. There is a three stage tower with battlements on the south east corner.

The south front has three bays separated by stepped buttresses. The west bay is the west aisle and the east bay is the tower. The centre bay has has an entrance with a semi-circular glazed fan-light and on either side small round-headed windows. The main window above is also round-headed with two vertical astrigals. Above again is a small circular window. The tower has pairs of stepped corner buttresses. The east face at stage 1 has a round-headed window as does the south face at stage 2. Stage three has pairs of round-headed windows.

The west wall has five bays separated by stepped buttresses and containing round-headed windows.

The north gable has a pairof lower round-headed windows. The main window is a large circle  and above there is a small circular louvre window.
