This Church started as a Relief Church back in 1768 following a split with the loca Antiburgher church. The church was built in 1769/70 and in 1770 they joined the Relief Church. A manse was built about 1774. This church was replaced in 1838/40 on the same site. The architect was John Baird “Primus” (senior). In 1847 it united with the United Secession Church to form the United Presbyterian Church. They erected schools in 1859. In 1885/1886 Henry Willis installed a pipe organ. It had a burial ground attached to the church prior to 1896. In 1900 came the union with the Free Church of Scotland and it became Anderston United Free Church. At this point it had three halls, a session room and church officer’s house. Another hall was erected prior to 1910 and might have been one of the halls mentioned above. The school also would have been converted to a hall in about 1876 following the formation of the School Boards which took the responsibility for education away from the churches. The next union was with the Church of Scotland in 1929 when it was renamed Anderston Old Parish Church. In 1968 Anderston St Martin’s and St Peter’s and St Mark’s Lancefield Churches all united to form Anderston Parish Church. At this point a new church was built and the old church was demolished to make way for new roads. The manse at 492 Argyle Street was demolished in 1967.
