In 1815 services were provided from the Burgher Church at Lanark. A church was built in St Mary's Street in 1818 as Sanquhar Secession Burgher Church. The church became a New Licht Church and in 1820 united with the Antiburgher New Licht Church to form the United Secession Church and this church became Sanquhar North United Secession Church. A manse was built in 1826. A gallery was added to the church in 1833. In 1847 the United Secession and Relief Churches united and this church became Sanquhar North United Presbyterian Church. The church was redecorated in 1848 and that same year there was substantial settlement caused by mine workings. This caused the church to be demolished in 1848/49. A new church was built further south on St Mary's Street in 1849.
Theis was a small rectangular Meeting House on the east side of St Mary's Street near to the railway line. It was aligned essentially north/south.
