St Mary's Private Chapel, Straloch House, New Machar

This is a private chapel belonging to Straloch House Estate. The house is set in private parkland, with areas of woodland and grassland. The estate was granted by charter to Henry Cheyne in 1348 and the current house, to which the chapel is associated, was built in 1780. The chapel building is located at the edge of a small area of mature woodland, south-east of the house. It is a small, single-room building and used for private worship. The present chapel appears to have replaced a previous medieval chapel, dedicated to St Mary, on or near the site (again, likely associated with Straloch House).
