This gabled Gothic town church, originally the Elderslie Free Church, was the first church designed by the architect Willam D. McLennan. It has now been closed for several years and when last visited was boarded up, unused and threatened by vandalism. It has red sandstone walls and a slate roof. Researched by P. Kerr, compiled by J. Dowling, 29/3/2004.
The church started as a mission in 1891, and although the church was sanctioned in 1897 it was not completed until 1900. It became Elderslie United Free Church in 1900 at the union of the Free and United Presbyterian Churches. The manse followed in 1902. After the 1929 union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church it was known as Elderslie East Church. In 1977 the East and West churches were united, and the congregation moved to the West Church. The building was closed and remained unused until 2000. It was then purchased in a derelict state by the Victory Eastgate Church, and renovated over a number of years. The building is once more a place of worship. PK 30/7/23
